Welcome to CystoProtek®:
the natural supplement designed to reduce symptoms of interstitial cystitis
We are sorry you are having problems with Interstitial Cystitis (IC), also called Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS). We understand how painful these bladder symptoms can be, and we hope to help you feel much better.
Interstitial Cystitis or Painful Bladder Syndrome is a chronic inflammation of the bladder that occurs typically in women but does also affect men. In fact, the Interstitial Cystitis Association reports that there are more than 700,000 cases of interstitital cystitis in the U.S. today.
Interstitial cystitis and painful bladder syndrome are difficult to diagnose, and there is currently no known cure. Interstitial cystitis is not considered stress related or a psychosomatic disorder.
Symptoms of interstitial cystitis can include urinary urgency, urinary frequency, nocturiaand pelvic pain. Interstitial cystitis symptoms can vary from fairly mild to intensely painful, and individuals with interstitial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome often find their quality of life significantly impaired due to bladder pain and the need to urinate excessively.
In April of 2007, Alaven acquired CystoProtek®, a patent-protected, natural oral dietary supplement in soft gel capsule form. CystoProtek was developed and clinically tested to help promote interstitial bladder health* by significantly reducing the pain and improving overall symptoms of interstitial cystitis. CystoProtek® was created by Theoharis Theoharides, Ph.D, M.D, a professor of Pharmacology, Internal Medicine and Biochemistry at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Theoharides has been studying the mechanism of allergic reactions and the role of mast cells for approximately 20 years. During this time, he discovered that the mast cell, which traditionally had thought to only be responsible for allergic reactions, is critically important in inflammation and the pathogenesis of interstitial cystitis and other inflammatory conditions. As a result, he focused on ways he could block the activation of this cell and its secretion of many noxious substances. His work in the field has been published in more than 200 scientific papers.
